A parent volunteering in his child's class saw that a site like this would be very useful for teachers (after seeing teachers with URLs written on scraps of paper for example - how many times have I done that only to lose it).

You need to register (free).
You upload your own picture to the web site and are then able to crop to use just part of the picture if you want to.
You then place the mouth area on the graphic - you can use as many of these as you want to i.e. you can have more than one person in the graphic.
You then record the sound and your video is made. These can be embedded into the class wiki, blog etc.
Students will love making these as part of a presentation about a research project for example if students are studying about another country they could use a picture of a person from that country and then have them speaking about the food that they like to eat or something similiar. Young children could do a news topic for others to look at.

You need to register (free) and download a recorder to your computer (Windows).
You are then able to use the recorder to record your PowerPoint presentation. It records your animations, transitions, as well as embedded video and audio. The presenter is also able to annotate their slides which will also be part of the recording. Once you have completed this you can then upload the file ready to share it with your students or other viewers.
This video can be embedded into your online class e.g. Blackboard or Moodle or into a blog or wiki. How great for the teacher to use this as a presentation after a class so that students can go to it to reinforce their learning or the teacher could use it as an introduction to a new topic.
Students could use this tool to present their findings about a research topic. This can be shared with a wider audience on a classroom blog.

Another great Web 2 tool for the classroom is Creaza. This site has several different parts to it requiring one login.
Cartoonist: with this tool you can create your own cartoons. You can use their professional backgrounds, characters, props, images and text. You can also create title cards, speech balloons, thought balloons, or scream balloons. You can also combine all this with your own images.
MovieEditor: MovieEditor is an online video editor to create movies, complete with professional-looking titles, transitions, effects, animation, music, and narration. It is a timeline-based video editor, similar to traditional desktop-based video editing tools. The difference - MovieEditor is web-based and a web browser with Adobe Flash gives you instant access! You can export the result to your favourite media player, or directly to YouTube or Facebook.
AudioEditor: AudioEditor is an online audio editor for recording, slicing, and mixing audio. It is useful if you want to publish the finished sound clip as a podcast.
This tool follows established conventions for sound editing, allowing you to place sound files along a timeline, across several channels.

You can also record sound and add it as a track on top of your final edit.
I have downloaded a great tool from the web - and it is free (as a teacher don't we love the free stuff?). Dropbox.
Dropbox allows you to put files into a single folder and share between computers or with others. It is great.

Another great Web 2 tool (free) that I like is Youblisher. You upload your pdf files and it makes the document 'flippable' so the pages turn - it makes it more like reading a 'real' book.
I have embedded a small pdf (2 pages) so you can see how it works. This is great for schools - children could make their own pdf files to add to classroom blogs or wikis.

A book for teachers, Movemeon, is available for a free download (or a hard copy may be bought) for teachers. This has been made from the Twitter community and consists of tip, suggestions and ideas. It has lots of interesting ideas about activities, behaviour, classroom management and feedback. It is well worth teachers downloading this book. Apparently another book is planned on school leadership.

VoiceThread has an interesting presentation about using Web 2 tools in the classroom. There are some great ideas in here. There are several different slides to the presentation so make sure you look at them all. You might like to make some comments on different pages especially if you have had experiences in with the tools.

I have been making an elearning book using ClassTools. You can then embed these into your blog or wiki. A big positive is that you do not need user names, passwords etc. Unfortunately the book needs to be under 10 pages. However what a great tool to use in the classroom. As well as the obvious curriculum area of literacy it could be integrated into any curriculum area. There are some really great templates such as fishbones and timelines for example - have a look. You can also create educational games and activities. These are all done using Flash. It is free!!

I have been playing around with PicLits. What a great idea to use this site to inspire writing in the classroom.
I can certainly see possibilies for children to work together to create these. What a shame that you appear to be unable to use your own graphics but at the moment using these ones enables children to understand the concept and then they could go on to make their own.

Glogster is an interesting Web 2 tool which educators can use in the classroom. Graphics, sound, text and video can be used. Here is a quick play about with the tool. I will be interested to see how teachers are using this in their classrooms. I can certainly see that there are probably some of the glogs others have made that are not appropriate for children (similar to using some other tools).

Animoto, as I have said before is a great little tool for the classroom. By putting your own photos in it makes a video for you - each one is different. It now has a new feature so that you are able to put in the text to go with the graphics.
On the home page of the site you can see a sample video. Don't forget that there is an education area where you can register. This allows you free downloads. Some of my students have made these to put into their web sites or into multimedia resources.

A free piece of mindmapping software is Compendium. It is a visual tool to mindmap and very useful in the classroom. The site has many examples to show how it is being used.
Compendium is about sharing ideas, creating artifacts, making things together, and breaking down the boundaries between dialogue, artifact, knowledge, and data.

A free graphics editor is Inkscape with has capabilities which are similar to other programs (not free). You can edit nodes or trace bitmaps for example. ______________________________________________________________________
